Competitor news alerts without inbox overload
News monitoring fails when every mention is treated as a new event. One announcement can become dozens of links without adding evidence.
Build queries around entities and events
Company-name alerts miss product brands and create ambiguity for common names. Add official domains, product names, founders and event terms such as funding, acquisition, partnership, pricing or launch.
Use exclusions carefully. It is better to classify uncertain results than to create a brittle query that silently removes a real event.
Find the origin of the story
Press-release networks and summaries can repeat the same claim. Locate the company announcement, filing, interview or original reporting. Keep later coverage only when it contributes independent facts or useful interpretation.
Group coverage into one event
Cluster results by entity, time and claim. Choose one canonical event title and attach the source set. This preserves multiple perspectives without forcing the recipient to open fifteen near-identical links.
Define what deserves interruption
Funding, acquisition, material pricing and a launch affecting active deals may justify immediate delivery. Commentary, awards and generic mentions can wait for a digest. Write these rules before a busy news day.
Working checklist
Use this in the next review.
- Monitor products and key people as well as the company name.
- Identify the originating source.
- Collapse syndicated links into one event.
- Keep additional sources only when they add evidence.
- Separate urgent alerts from scheduled digests.
